An on-site Control System based on ControlNet is employed for a water plant in Tianjin to improve the working efficiency of filters and to realize the automation of filters wash and queuing. The system uses the A-B brand ControlLogix series products of Rockwell as the core, with ControlLogix5550 as the controllers and RSView as the supervisory configuration software. The system adopts Rockwell NetLinx which includes information network, control network and device network. The high speed Information network uses EtherNet to exchange information between computers and controllers, and to supervise and control the production process. High-speed ControlNet is employed as the control network to realize communication between controllers and to control I/O interfaces for long-range expansion. Efficient and inexpensive, DeviceNet is employed as the device network to supervise and control individual instruments. The wash and queuing of 22 filters is controlled by three controllers on ControlNet and optimized using FIFO (First In and First Out) semantics in ControLogix5550 software. As expected the on-site tests have shown that the control system operates steadily.
