In this paper, sustainable cooling is addressedfrom a technology and energy context in the perspective of arising need for cooling. Energy consumption and system efficiency are described through examples ofintegrated systems with outset in practical examples from the supermarket sector. The analysis shows that agrowing cooling capacity can be obtained in line with the growth of Renewable Energy Resources and thatcooling systems can play a major positive role in the sustainability codex. The specific need for a growingcold chain is addressed through a total emission perspective and it is shown that increased food security andsafety can be obtained using a low emission cold chain which reduces the food waste and loss.
