Pollution has been recognized as the major threat to sustainability of river in Malaysia. Some of the limitations of existing methods for river monitoring are cost of deployment, non-real-time monitoring, and low resolution both in time and space. To overcome these limitations, a smart river monitoring solution is proposed for river water quality in Malaysia. The proposed method incorporates unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), internet of things (IoT), low power wide area (LPWA) and data analytic (DA). A setup of the proposed method and preliminary results are presented. The proposed method is expected to deliver an efficient and real-time solution for river monitoring in Malaysia.
