This paper presents a proposal of working method for the development of Virtual Instruments. The method is valid with the design of an open source graphical user interface and its implementation as a virtual instrument to acquire the variables of a prototype of an industrial process for stamping parts. The method is developed in four stages: analysis and modeling, design, construction and validation. The validation stage is performed by heuristic or cognitive pathway evaluation. For this evaluation, it is based on a preliminary design that generates an initial interface, then apply the phases of user evaluation, designer verification, design modifications and improved interface. Two iterations are performed that are supported with the usability evaluation for each interface generated.
