The experiments show that: 1. The role of the atmosphere can be, not only to inert the chamber and remove air, but also to improve the process parameters as well as the mechanical properties. 2. Helium stabilizes the meltpool and reduces the amount of particles. 3. Helium enables a higher tensile strength than Argon probably due to the increased supply of energy to the melt pool.
