摘要

Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis, MTB) remains one of the top ten causes of human mortality.1 The World Health Organization noted that during 2015 alone, 10.4 million new MTB cases were recorded world-wide; 1.8 million recorded human deaths reflected poorer regions of the world.1 These data are consistent with previous reports estimating that around one-third of all humans harbor causative organisms, with an average 9 million new reported cases and 1.5 million deaths each year.2 However, thetotal number of human deaths world-wide, from complicated and uncomplicated MTB, would be quite difficult to estimate more precisely because of varying accessibility to health care and inconsistent recordkeeping.
