Coordinate control of distributed generation and active power electronics loads in islanding microgrid

In islanding microgrid, the distributed generation (DG) units should take over the microgrid and meet the power demand of loads. Due to the randomness and capacity limitation of DG units, the islanding microgrid may face overload challenge with load increasing. The islanding microgrid need massive energy storage system for power reserve or load shedding to maintain microgrid stable. However, this is not ideal solution due to the high construction cost and reliability of power supply. This paper proposes a coordinate control scheme for DG units and active power electronics loads to maintain supply-demand balance in islanding microgrid. A flexible load control is proposed to control power electronics load to control its power consumption, which is implemented using converter control variables measured locally. Through the flexible load control strategy, supply-demand balance can be realized automatically, and the system reliability can be maintained and enhanced. As a consequence, the constructions of massive energy storage system and communication system can be saved. Matlab simulation results are shown the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
