摘要

Algae are ubiquitous in surface drinking water sources, including rivers, lakes and reservoirs. When an algal bloom occurs, both the algal cells and the associated algogenic organic matter (AOM) can significantly increase in concentration. AOM is derived from algal metabolic excretions during growth, or release on cell lysis. In natural waters, AOM is the major source of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON), which has been identified as an important N-DBP precursor during drinking water disinfection.
