For the implementation of sustainable land use strategies in Europe tools for the evaluation of long-term changes of peatland functions are essential. Therefore the development of a semi-quantitative and rules based decision-support system (DSS) was started. It is an aiding tool to understand and to forecast long-term processes of the peatland ecosystem. The spatial resolution of the model will be the site scale, considering the landscape setting of the peatland. The model will run with yearly intervals. It will forecast the change in peatland functions over a time span of 10 to 100 years. As a basis for the development of the DSS indicators for peatland functions have been selected. The model will consist of four main modules (hydrology, carbon, nitrogen, vegetation) and additional calculations. Model results will be represented in an AMOEB A-diagram.
