The First Hundred Years of Mechanism Science at RWTH Aachen University

The dedicated field of mechanism theory at RWTH Aachen University has been established institutionally in 1959 under Walther Meyer zur Capellen. However, this does not mark the real beginning of mechanism theory at RWTH Aachen University. In fact mechanism theory was a teaching and research topic already from the very beginning of RWTH Aachen University in 1870 influenced by Franz Reuleaux and later in the late Twenties of the last century especially through the activities of Kurt Rauh. In the following it will be shown how mechanism science in Aachen has always played a role during the first hundred years of RWTH Aachen University.
