It was reported that a novel method for synthesizing TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibril(TOCN)aerogel microspheres by using an ultrasonic nebulizer.Experimentally,ultrasonic-treated nanofibril suspensions were atomized and then blown into liquid nitrogen for instant freezing followed by freeze-drying.The obtained microspheres with diameters mostly within 2-7 um were highly porous and ultralight-weight.This novel cellulose nanofirbril aerogel microspheres that can be used for fast and high efficient molecule or ions extraction and separation.The aerogel microspheres that were saturated with stripping solution were dispersed in an oil phase to form a stable water-in-oil(W/O)suspension.This suspension was then dispersed in large amount of external waste water to form W/O/W micro-reactor system.The result indicates that the system was able to extract 93%phenol and 82%Cu2+from external water phase in a few minutes,suggesting its great potential for industrial applications.
