Development of Eye Gaze Software for children with physical disabilities

It's not easy for physically disabled students to communicate with others. Aim of this study is to develop communication aid application for such disabled students. Some of disabled students can express his/her feelings with facial expression even though they cannot move their hands or fingers. For these students, eye movement is one of the most important channels of communication. Therefore we make a better communication aid application which detects eye movement using image processing techniques. Several applications that detect line-of-sight are proposed so far however, the cost of these applications are very high and cannot be used easily. In this study, a communication aid application is implemented on a tablet terminal. Our proposed communication aid application plays voice for the disabled student when our application detects eye-movement. This paper describes how our application works, its efficiency and our future work.
