An assessment method for measurement accuracy of gravity gradiometer

Gravity gradient has a higher resolution than gravity, which makes it play an important role in the exploration of oil and mineral respecting. In order to obtain accurate information about gravity gradient, it is necessary to assess the performance of gravity gradiometer before the survey. In this paper, a new assessment method for measurement accuracy of gravity gradiometer is proposed for the drawbacks of the existing assessment methods, such as take long time, complex workload and spends high. The new assessment method is based on the assumption that the gravitational potential satisfies Laplace equation. From this property, we know that the sum of diagonal components of the gravity gradient tensor matrix is zero. On the other hand, the gravity gradient signals expressed in the local geographic frame (LGF) can be obtained by changing the measured attitude of the gravity gradiometer. Then by judging whether the sum of diagonal components of the measured gravity gradient tensor is zero, the assessment of the gradiometer can be achieved. A simulation experiment is designed and carried out, and the results show that the assessment method works well.
