It is an honor and a privilege to present the 2015 American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) Alex Hogg Memorial Lecture. In this presentation, I hope to help connect the theme of this meeting "Beyond Our Oath: Integrity, Intensity, Professionalism" with dialogue and action we can take to increase our level of influence, allowing us to be more effective in advocating our positions on issues pertaining to swine health, swine welfare, antimicrobial use, public health and pork safety. When Dr. Ron Brodersen first asked me to speak on the topic of advocacy, I was speechless. I asked for a few days to consider the opportunity. After discussing with my wife, Dr. Angela Daniels, I agreed.
