Multi-stage planning and economic analysis of intelligent Energy Management System in a Smart Building

With the inevitable transition of current electricity grids towards Smart Grid architecture and the increasing deployment of embedded generation on a residential level, the practicalities of utilizing well-managed smart technologies within a building are quickly gaining greater attraction. This project will focus on achieving two main objectives. The first will be to build a Building Energy Management System (EMS) including a grid-connected PV system and a storage system using the Mixed-Integer Linear Programming framework for the purpose of optimizing the scheduling of building elements in order to achieve a pre-specified objective. The second will be to utilize the EMS and further optimize the size of PV and battery to achieve the most economic profit for building owner. This paper performs schedule optimization for a typical building, the behavior of the system developed is verified to be functioning as required. Furthermore, the performance of system under different scenarios was analyzed and the best result is achieved.
