Seasonal and Regional Characteristics of PM2.5 and Speciation in Taiwan from 2006-2009

Compared with the large volume of studies carried out in the western world, studies of chemical speciation of particulate matter and its impacts in Asian countries are relatively scarce. With the relatively severe problems of particulate air pollution, warm climate, and unique activity patterns, it is crucial to address the issue systematically to better understand ambient aerosol speciation in Taiwan, where the results could serve as a better base for designing control strategies to improve urban air quality and reduce the health effects associated with exposure to particulate components. In the current study, monitoring data collected at Taiwan Aerosol Observation Network (Academia Sinica) and the Aerosol Supersites of Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (Taiwan EPA) were compiled and adjusted to investigate the chemical properties of PM2.5 in different regions of Taiwan.
