Motor vehicle emissions in urban streets with intense traffic have been pointed out as a significant local source leading to interest in the concept of “hot spots,” which are locations where mobile sources may expose people to elevated levels of air pollutants (Zhou and Levy, 2007). Epidemiological studies have reported a connection between traffic-related pollutants and adverse health effects including coronary heart disease and respiratory symptoms (Janssen et al., 2003; Kim et al., 2004).
