The morphological response of a tidal basin in the Dutch Wadden Sea, Amelander Zeegat, is studied using the semi-empirical model ASMITA. The ASMITA model used by Van Goor et al. (2003) is recalibrated following the recommendations by Wang et al. (2008) on the parameter settings. The model with the new parameter settings appears to give results concerning the response to sealevel rise in line with the results of process-based modelling using one sediment fraction (Dissanayake et al., 2012). The critical rates of sea-level rise that sediment import into a tidal basin in the Wadden Sea cannot compensate, become considerable lower than those according to Van Goor et al. (2003). It is concluded that including more sediment fractions, e.g. a (fine) mud fraction and a (coarse) sand fraction is necessary for both type models to simulate the impact of sea-level rise, if the physically based parameter settings are used.
