摘要

As road transport energy transitions from hydrocarbons such as diesel and petrol to mains electricity in the UK, smart systems will be needed to regulate this additional demand and prevent the electricity network being overloaded and prevent, or defer, the costs associated with reinforcing network assets. Without smart controls on the electricity network, estimates suggest that a 25 per cent uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030 could lead to half the power distribution network transformers closest to homes or businesses needing to be upgraded, potentially increasing the cost of new EV infrastructure. This paper will present and examine a system developed and trialled on the UK Power Networks Low Carbon London (LCL) programme, to regulate the demand on the network from EVs. This paper will also draw on the outcome of the wider LCL trials that examined the opportunities for smart optimisation of EV electricity demands.
