Nonlinear nature of powerline transfer function due to multipath propagation results in fading which can be modeled with a Rician probability density function. Analysis is presented for a power line communication system considering the stochastic gain coefficient with Rician distribution. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with binary PSK modulation is considered in carrying out the analysis. The effects of impulsive noise along with background powerline noise are also included in the analytical approach to evaluate the Bit error rate of OFDM powerline communication system. Results show that there are significant penalty in receiver sensitivity due to fading in presence of impulsive noise.
