DOWNER COW SYNDROME

The expression "downer cow syndrome" indicates a condition consisting of a prolonged recumbency (more than 12 hours) for the cow's inability to stand up.This syndrome occurs more frequently in the peripartum, usually 2-3 days before to 10 days after delivery. The etiology is complex because of a large number of involved causal factors: metabolic disorders, toxic or infectious disorders, trauma during orafter birth, management errors.
