As with sulfur compounds (H2S, COS), halide compounds (NaCl and KCl) and NH3, halogen acids (HX, X = Cl, Br or F) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN) are also common impurities present in biomass-derived syngas [1,2]. Therefore, to investigate the effect of trace amounts of HX and HCN poisons on the behavior of Fischer- Tropsch synthesis (FTS) catalyst is important for the development of the biomass to liquid (BTL) process. The aims are to significantly lower gas purification costs and improve catalyst life. So far, few studies have examined the impacts of HX and HCN impurities on Fe or Co catalyst performance.
