An efficient gateway discovery algorithm for large data transmission in VANET networks

The VANET (Vehicular Ad hoc Network) has become a future direction in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and the integration of VANET and other networks like 4G appears to be particularly significant. However, the VANET-4G heterogeneous networks, especially when transmitting large data volume like voice or video, must face difficult issues, such as delay and low throughput caused by collision. We propose a gateway discovery algorithm to select some gateways in this area to process and transmit a service or request from other vehicles. In this paper, our gateway discovery algorithm aims to provide an efficient and adaptive with guarantee low delay and high throughput (LDHT) gateway discovery mechanism. First, it ensures every vehicle which has requests can discover an optimal gateway; second, the number of the gateways in the described region is small; third, the algorithm guarantees the average delay of request and throughput within the allowable range. We discuss the implementation of this algorithm and prove its correction.
