THOMPSON FALL UNIT 7 STATOR CORE BOLT FAILURE SEPTEMBER 2004

On September 21, 2004 during a routine generator inspection two broken core bolts with nuts were found lodged into the back of the generator stator coils. Further inspection by ultrasound technology determined that 40 bolts total were cracked which was 20% of the total. This presentation will cover the subsequent investigation including the temporary fix and then cover the permanent fix. It will also include testing done to verify the failure and also to test the resulting repair.
