Several factors such as water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content, moisture content, type of predominant bacteria, buffering capacity, packing and sealing are known to be associated with fermentation quality of silage.Among the factors, WSC was particularly the most important, because effective silage relies on the fermentation of WSC to lactic acid by lactic acid bacteria.This experiment was conducted to observe the effect of WSC content on fermentation characteristics of whole crop wheat silage.Wheat breeding lines were harvested at the 30 days after heading and chopped for making silage.They were ensiled in a 15L mini silo and then stored in a dark place at an ambient temperature (15-20°C).Feed value and sugar content of wheat forage were analyzed before and after ensiling.
