Classification of Reservoir Revival Landslides in the Three Gorges Reservoir

A comprehensive analysis of the factors influencing the landslides in the area of Three Gorges Reservoir was firstly accomplished.Then, based on the statistics analysis and mechanical data of 2000 reservoir landslides in the study area, especially for 500 large landslides, the single size of which exceeded 100×104m3, the material and geo-structure classification scheme of reservoir revival landslides was proposed, consisting of loess landslide, debris landslide and rock landslide.For each type of these landslides the reservoir water response characteristics were analyzed.Finally, the classification scheme of landslide revival mechanism was presented, classified as reservoir water floating, dynamic pore water pressuring and reservoir water softening on the basis of the analysis of revival mechanism of 151 large landslides which have been deformed or destroyed since the Reservoir impoundment.
