Optimization of chemical milling solution for 2219 aluminum alloy

The chemical milling of 2219 aluminum alloy was conducted in NaOH + Na2S + TEA + Al3+ solution, and the composition of chemical milling solution was optimized by using orthogonal experiments and multi-index analysis methods.The experimental results shown that when the surface roughness was mainly concerned the optimal milling solution for 2219 aluminum alloy was 160-180 g · L-1 NaOH, 5 g · L-1 Na2S, 60 g · L-1 TEA and 25 g · L-1 Al3 +.But in the case of the milling rate being the prior target, the most favorable solution was composed by 200 g · L-1 NaOH, 14g · L-1 Na2S, 10-60 g · L-1 TEA and 5 g · L-1 Al3+.Under the requirement of both surface roughness and milling rate, the solution with the composition of 200 g · L-1 NaOH, 5 g · L-1 Na2S, 60 g · L-1 TEA and 5 g · L-1 Al3+ was the better choice for 2219 aluminum alloy, in which the surface roughness and milling rate of the 2219 alloy after chemical milling were 0.6055 μm and 0.1638 mm · min-1 respectively.
