A new high speed folio sheet cutter is presented. The sheet cutter features a new slitter design resulting in high slitter knife run times, plus a continous high quality of slitting - even with high calipers. The cross cutter with AC-drives has been redesigned. The mass momentum of the cross cutter has been reduced significantly to allow a much higher speedcurve for short formats becoming more important. The high speed part of the new tape section takes into account aerodynamical effects of sheet transport. The motorized catch station allows precise overlapping of sheets without sheet marking and fast change-overs within a wide grade program to be run on the sheeter. The single-layboy concept shows skid change at full machine speed without any sheet loss. The enhanced sheeter automation allows operators to store grade specific technological parameters such as decurling curves and catch station settings. Practical experiences from recent start-ups of the new high speed sheeter show the achievement of the development goals for the new sheet cutter design.
