For several years, the use of computer tomography (CT) for dimensional measurement has been on the rise in industrial and research applications. The integration of CT sensor technology in coordinate measuring machines expanded the application spectrum of inspection tasks to include high-precision measurement of plastic parts, as well as metal parts of various materials and different sizes. In addition to high requirements for accuracy, however, aspects such as ease of use and user-friendly analysis also play a decisive role in the continued expansion of coordinate measuring machines with computer tomography. In addition, larger and larger parts and denser materials must be measured. These requirements are met by new functions and methods for dimensional measurement using computer tomography, which is described below.
