1.Introduction Low-level,meso-γ-scale mesovortices (MVs) are frequently observed at the leading edge of quasi-linear convective systems (QLCSs) such as squall lines and bow echoes.Due to their ability to produce damaging straight-line winds (i.e.,derechoes) near the surface,Recently,MVs have received increasing attentions (e.g.,Weisman and Trapp 2003;Atkins et al.2004;Wakimoto et al.2006a;Atkins and Laurent 2009).
