The genus Viburnum ( Caprifoliaceae) consists of about 150 species of shrubs and small trees distributed primarily in the northern hemisphere. Viburnum seed always contains a small embryo (linear-underdeveloped) that the embryo must grow inside the seed before the root emerges. Two kinds of morphophysiological dormancy (MPD) have been reported in Viburnum seeds: non-deep simple epicotyl MPD and deep simple epicotyl MPD. In the former, seeds require warm temperatures ( > 15t) for root and shoot emergence, while in the latter seeds require warm temperatures for root emergence and cold temperatures (0 -lOt) for shoot emergence (Baskin era/ 2009). The purpose of this study was to determine if there are differences in germination of V. luzonicum seeds collected from northern subtropical and southern tropical Taiwan.
