CRITERION FOR ENERGY USE ESTIMATION IN SUPERMARKET

This study is a proposal for developing a new criterion for energy use estimation in European supermarkets. In the first part, a collection of available data is presented in order to define the energy use benchmarks based on scientific papers and retailers' annual reports. Developing of the energy use trends underlines a lack of key details. Current EU directives are analyzed to define present and future legislative scenarios. In the second part, the paper includes analyses based on annual energy use simulations of different supermarket sizes, located in different climate zones, using the calculation tool CyberMart. The developed equations for energy use estimation use 15 parameters to predict the electrical, heating, cooling and domestic hot water demands. Combining these values with real data provided by the retail owners, it is possible to identify efficient buildings. The calculated energy consumptions are compared to the data found in the literature.
