摘要

Implications for training Japanese cadets; 1)Both of the cultural factors discussed in this presentation, power distance and language anxiety, are significant in Japanese society; 2)Power distance is high in Japan's "vertical society" so Japanese cadets may have difficulty challenging decisions made by superiors as well as difficulty speaking (or speaking assertively) when they notice a problem; 3)Language anxiety may make Japanese cadets reluctant to speak English because they fear standing out, making mistakes or eliciting negative reactions; 4)Japanese cadets need help to overcome this reluctance to speak or challenge authority, and to achieve the "low power distance" mindset of CRM training; 5)Finally, the senpai-kohai relationship between senior and junior cadets seems to result in both +ve and -ve feedback during training.
