Enabling the Continuous Improvement of our Surface Navy Fleet Post Shakedown Availability (PSA) by Standardizing Execution Processes

Shipbuilding for the US Navy is a complex process involving government-industry coordination and cooperation, multiple critical milestones, integration of sophisticated ship systems, and ship-specific tailoring. Post Shakedown Availability (PSA) is the final industrial opportunity within new construction to correct ship deficiencies and accomplish authorized work prior to Shipbuilding and Conversion, Navy (SCN) Obligation Work Limiting Date (OWLD). Figure 1 portrays the major DDG 51 shipbuilding milestones, including PSA.
