The increased emission of CO2, a greenhouse gas, to the atmosphere is a matter of serious worldwide concern. Every year a few gigatons of CO2 are added to the atmosphere by anthropogenic activities such as burning of fuel for electricity, running industry and transportation. Thus, developing ways to reduce the emission of CO2 to the atmosphere is of major importance. Various technologies to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere include physical and chemical absorption methods, membrane systems, biological fixation, O2/CO2 combustion process and cryogenic methods. CO2 capture and sequestration (CCS) play an important role in these reductions. There are many different ways to capture carbon dioxide. In post-combustion CO2 capture, concentrated aqueous amines are commonly used for carbon dioxide gas removal in part due to their absorption rate.
