Inadequate biomaterial-cell interactions limit the biological performance and lifetime of numerous biomedical devices. We have developedplatform technologies consisting of bioactive surfaces and protein/cell-delivery vehicles that integrate synthetic materials and biological functionalities for regenerative medicine applications, including bone repair, vascularization, and inflammation. By mimicking the structure of native extracellular matrix components, we have engineered novel materials that direct integrin binding specificity and signaling. These materials regulate cell adhesion and signaling to direct in vitro cell functions, such as adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation, and in vivo healing responses for tissue repair and integration.
