This study has shown that collagen/TCP scaffold bone graft material resulted in similar biomechanical performance and fusion rates when compared to autograft bone after 12 weeks in the sheep instrumented posterolateral fusion model. Additionally based on flexion/extension and lateral bending ROM results a threshold of >2° motion correlated with nonunion from manual palpation. Based on the fusion results such material may be a good candidate in spinal fusion as a substitute for autograft bone.
