Thermal modelling of infrared heater for plastic waste gasification

The purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical investigation of infrared heater behaviour for plastic waste gasification. A mathematical model is developed for transient and steady state conditions and equations were solved using MATLAB and Simulink. The models provide a thermal simulation and optimize the design characteristics of a far-infrared (FIR) heater. The paper includes non-grey radiative heat transfer between different parts of FIR heater, as well as conduction and radiation on the reflector. The geometry has been simplified into a one dimensional problem.
