摘要

In this paper a loss estimation methodology which provides various measures of seismic risk has been applied aiming to compare the seismic performance of Moment Resisting Steel Frames. A procedure for evaluating the seismic loss is herein briefly summarised and applied to MRFs designed according to different criteria. In particular, two design approaches are examined. The first one corresponds to the provisions suggested by Italian Seismic Code, while the second approach is based on a rigorous application of Theory of Plastic Mechanism Control which is devoted to the design of structures able to exhibit, in the ultimate conditions, a collapse mechanism of global type. The aim of the presented work is to focus on the use of seismic loss estimation for decision making and on the seismic assessment of the considered design procedures. A brief state of the art on seismic loss's estimation is given with reference to a specific study case of 5-storey's commercial office building which is designed by means of the two above mentioned methodologies.
