摘要

Sediment data of rivers,as one of the basic scientific data resources, are likely to have a significant importance for studies on river channel morphology, river management, river ecology, river nutrient flux, navigation, and erosion and sedimentation in the delta. To provide basic sediment data of world rivers for scientists, engineers and managers in related fields,a sediment data and information sharing platform,Global Data of Erosion and Sedimentation (GDES),which allows free access for public and scientific research communities, has been established by the International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES) under support of Chinese government as one of contributions to the UNESCO IHP-International Sediment Initiative (ISI).The database and its architecture, key technologies and main contents are introduced in the paper. The GDES is designed and developed by adopting the B/S technology, using a fat server and thin-client model.Web applications with GIS function have been achieved by using Java language,JSP development tools and component technology based on the J2EE environment. It includes 6 sections,i.e.Basic Data,Literature,Simulation Technology,Major Projects,Institutes and Experts,as well as Multimedia.Management services for the GDES data enquiry, publishing and information sharing based on the spatial distribution are supplied.Users can browse and download all relevant information, data and documents, visually navigate hydrology gauge stations by using WebGIS and Google Map,and access sediment attribute data displayed with distribution lines, column charts, bar charts and two-dimensional tables.Referring the available sediment load data of large rivers of the world obtained from the GDES and using the contemporary land-ocean flux in the absence of reservoir trapping,16.2 Gt/a,as a baseline,we roughly estimate the recent global land-ocean sediment flux is 9.3 ~ 10.5 Gt/a.
