Core-Functionalized Star Polymers.Microgel star polymers provide interesting "nanospace" in the microgel cores flanked by a corona (arms) derived from a living polymerization.As illustrated in Figure 1,these star polymers may readily be synthesized by "linking" linear living polymers with a bifunctional monomer (linking agent) that in turn forms a core,or a localized gel network.This "arm-first" or "polymer-linking" method provides globular macromolecules of high molecular weights with a corona-core double-layer architecture and a microgel core as a "solubilized" and localized gel network.
