摘要

On 13th November 2005,in the city of Jilin in Jilin Province,an explosion happened in a factory of PetroChina Jilin Chemical Corporation,causing a hundred tons of benzene and nitrobenzene to flow into the Songhuajiang River,leading directly to the severe water pollution.Benzene and nitrobenzene are toxic and harmful.The paper collects and list many water quality criteria,guidelines,objectives,and/or standards for benzene and nitrobenzene developed by regulatory agencies throughout the world.While some of these benchmarks are intended to provide informal tools for interpreting environmental monitoring data,others are intended to be used in regulatory and enforcement programs.Some of them are reviewed and compared.What should China do in the next step are discussed then.Finally,cost of Songhuajiang River pollution accident is identified based on the highest and lowest benchmarks.
