Chengdu,an important regional central city in China,is planning a new airport (Jianyang Lujia Town),which is positioned as a national international aviation hub and gateway hub to the Midwest.As the gateway airport of "One City,Two Airports" in Chengdu,the airport will mainly serve the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and Tianfu New Area,with the designed throughput of80 million passengers per year and a distance of more than 60 km from the center of Chengdu through the Longquan Mountains.Taking into consideration of new airport's position,throughput and distance from the city center,a supportive rail transit system has to be planned to meet service requirement from airport passengers,which has major difference with normal rail transit system.The author summarizes operating experience from airport lines in domestic and international cities (Beijing,Hong Kong,London,etc.),compares three operating modes of airport rail transit system and proposes"30 minutes Rule" applied in airport line service.Furthermore,the author proposes on Chengdu Airport Line's function orientation,that is the new Airport Line mainly serves the new airport,with due consideration to city's commute.The author analyzes and estimates passenger flow of new airport line and proposes to apply "140 ~ 160 km" as the maximum operating speed of rail.
