An Assessment on the Adaptation of ISO 14000 in the Fertilizer Industry of Bangladesh for the Sustainable Development

To enhance the productivity of the land, different types of fertilizer is being used. Basically, different drivers like the demand of crops, variation in the price of output and changing relative factors are influencing to increase the use of fertilizer. However, increased use and unplanned production of fertilizer has an adverse impact on the environment. But that type of hidden cost is not possible to measure objectively. So, it seems plausible to internalize these types of cost. ISO 14000 is one that helps firm to reduce the adverse impact on environment. This paper explores the current situation of the fertilizer (chemical) sector of Bangladesh regarding the implementation of ISO 14000. However, empirical results indicate that fertilizer sector is enjoying the growth without ensuring ISO 14000 properly.
