A series of ammonium selective membranes based on nonactin ionophore using different polymeric matrix have been developed. There were used PVC - as reference support and polyimide (PI) as inert matrix. The ammonium selective polyimide membrane was successfully obtained and the electrochemical results indicated reasonable selectivity for ammonium ions, but only modest selectivity over potassium ions. For this reason, it will be necessary the development of new ammonium - selective membranes using new ammonium ionophores, particularly those with increased selectivity over potassium ions to improve accuracy of ammonium ion determinations in the presence of potassium ions. The obtained ammonium selective devices could be successfully used for environment protection determinations.
