The presence of alternating current (AC) may cause serious damage on buried pipelines even when the off-potential matches -0.85V CSE criterion. The optimum cathodic protection potential (OCPP) is proved to be a more accurate parameter of cathodic protection. This paper applied electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to investigate the OCPP of X70 steel in soil simulating solution. The results of laboratory experiments proved that electrochemical methods can determine the OCPP and suggested the OCPP ofX70 steel -900 mVSCE when AC induced voltage was less than6V while about -1000 VSCE when it was more than 7V.
