WHEN, WHY, AND HOW OF LASER SURGERY

A laser was first used as a surgical instrument in the 60's to remove a tattoo. While it worked, not surprisingly it left an ugly scar because there was little understanding and no previous experience about the interactions of lasers and tissue. Thatlesson about an undesirable outcome as a result of limited understanding still applies today and is the key to using a laser successfully in surgery.
