Full Paper for Poster 191, EWEA OFFSHORE 2011 UNSINKABLE-STABLE FLOATING TRUSS PLATFORM TO SUPPORT WING PADDLE WHEEL TURBINE GENERATORS (WIND-TIDAL-WAVE)
The Unsinkable-Stable Floating Platform-UNFLOP is based on a truss structure that comprises individually buoyant water-tight truss members (usually tubes), that are interconnected through fixed or articulated jointing systems, which facilitate fast and easy assembly and disassembly of individual truss members without disturbing the truss. UNFLOP is practically unsinkable because a large number of truss-members must lose their buoyancy for it to be in any danger of sinking. UNFLOP is practically stable because waves slide-by the hydro-dynamically shaped truss members through the open-spaces between them, and the up-down buoyancy change effects on individual or small groups of members are minor and fast and cancel each-other-out over the total UNFLOP area, without influencing the overall system INERTIA.
