It has been largely emphasized to reduce the use of Pt in fuel cell, because the price of Pt has ever-increased over the past years. Therefore, people have been trying to develop new types of Ptbased electrocatalyst where less amount of Pt was needed. The objectives of this study are to suggest that electrochemical reduction could play a crucial role to fabricate Pt-based catalyst having core-shell structure. Electrochemical reduction of Cu was used to form Cu ad-layer which was later displaced with Pt, and electrochemical reduction of Pt was employed to make Pt layer on colloidal silica. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, XPS, TEM, and ICP-AES. The catalytic activities of both catalysts were examined by cyclic voltammetry or linear sweep voltametry in a conditioned environment and compared to those of commercial Ptonly catalyst.
