The additives for wood-plastic composites (WPGs) were synthesized from wood solvolysis method to improve the interface between wood and plastics. For the synthesis, two kinds of solvolysis solvents were used; one is hydrophillic polyoxyethylene (PEG), and the other was hydrophobic fatty alcohol (1-octadecanol). WPCs were manufactured adding 5-20% of solvolysis wood compound (SWC) by extrusion. A dynamic mechanical analyzer was used to measure the dynamic viscoelastic properties of WPCs. The changes of physical properties by the modification of the interface were evaluated to determine the effect of the compatibilizers. WPCs prepared with solvolysis wood compound derived from PEG (SWCP) did not have good mechanical properties, because each composition of WPCs was separated and SWCP did not work effectively as compatibilizer. On the other hand, WPCs prepared with solvolysis wood compound derived from l-octadecanol (SWCO) had good compatibility with polypropylene. The mechanical properties were better than the control sample which did not include any additives. Especially, flexibility was improved by addition of this solvolysis wood. The impact strength also increased about 10%.
